GPT-6 Astra Is Here — What Changes for Sticker Making

GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI's next general-purpose model. It opened to select companies and partners on September 3, and from September 4 it is being rolled out in stages to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans. The same model lands in Codex, OpenAI's developer tool. API pricing is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens — a big jump from the previous generation.

OpenAI's headline strengths are agentic computer use, coding, science and professional work. Its cybersecurity capability is strong enough that those features are gated to vetted organizations. In other words, it is a model that writes better and works longer on its own — not a new image model.

When you ask ChatGPT for an image, two models work together: one understands the conversation and instructions, and a dedicated image model produces the pixels. Astra is the first one. The actual drawing comes from an image-only model such as GPT Image 2. Emoticon Studio's generation server also draws with GPT Image 2. So Astra's arrival does not change line weight, color, or the ability to keep the same character across 24 cuts.

The flip side: because the image model has not changed, everything that already worked still works. Pinning the first cut as a reference with Character Anchor, writing the description as one line each for look, twist and situation, checking the white outline and transparent background — keep doing all of it.

It will not draw for you, but half the time spent on a pack is planning, not drawing. That half is where Astra is clearly faster.

1. Tightening the character line — dump your rough idea and ask: "Rewrite as one line each for look / twist / situation." Image models keep a character most stable from short, concrete sentences.
2. Planning the 24 emotions — ask for "24 replies and reactions people actually send in chat, no overlaps." You get combinations that get used: OK, thanks, sorry, congrats, cheer up, good night. It is better than people at spotting duplicate emotions.
3. Checking rejection risks — paste the platform's review criteria and ask where your pack might fail. Technical items like size, background and character mismatch are validated automatically during production, but concept overlap and copyright risk are worth screening this way before submission.

Ask Astra to "write a sticker character description" and you get a three-paragraph character sheet. It is well written, but paste it into an image model and the drawing falls apart. Image models cannot tell which parts matter in a long text, emphasize something different in every cut, and the character drifts from cut to cut.

The fix is simple. Hand the sheet back to Astra and say: "Cut this down to one line each for look, twist and situation." For example:

• Look: a cat shaped like a white rice cake with grey patches and sleepy eyes
• Twist: deadpan but secretly affectionate
• Situation: Monday morning commute

Those three lines hold the character for all 24 cuts. Props like hats, glasses and ribbons drift even with an anchor, so always spell them out in the look line.

Q. Does Emoticon Studio use Astra? — Drawings are made with GPT Image 2. Astra is not an image model, so it has no effect on generated results; use it directly in ChatGPT to refine character lines and emotion lists.

Q. Will stickers look better once Astra rolls out? — No. Quality, line work and character consistency are decided by the image model, and this launch does not change it. What changes is the speed of the planning stage.

Q. Can I paste the character description Astra wrote as-is? — Shorten it first. One line each for look, twist and situation is the rule. Long descriptions are the most common reason a character changes from cut to cut.

Q. Is Astra available on free ChatGPT? — At launch it rolls out to paid plans first. Earlier models handle planning help perfectly well, so there is no reason to delay your pack waiting for Astra.
